The Yachting Associations of Sri Lanka (YASL) was established in 1958. Prior to the formation of YASL the Royal Colombo Yacht Club (RCYC) was the heart of sailing in Sri Lanka. The RCYC was establish in 1898 and its club house was located in the Port of Colombo. The development of the Port forced the RCYC to leave their club house and have yet to find an appropriate location. The Ceylon Motor Yacht Club (CMYC) have assisted the RCYC by allowing them to utilise their facilities at Bolgoda Lake to continue their monthly racing. The association has continued over the years with other Clubs joining the Association, Sri Lanka Navy Sailing Club (SLNSC), Bentota Windsurfing Club (BWSC), and recently the Ruhunu Sailing Association (RSC). Members from all Clubs have represented Sri Lanka at an international level.
